Train smarter, not harder - Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) vs a Traditional Workout
-
EMS technology uses painless low-frequency impulses to stimulate the skeletal muscles. This has been widely used in hospitals and physiotherapy centres for decades as a safe and effective rehabilitation treatment with excellent results. The XBody EMS system we use has been rigorously tested, meets all Australian and European safety standards and won many internationally recognised awards.
We will provide you with guidelines on best practices before, during and after your session, as well as recovery between sessions. Our XBody EMS system and personalised training is safe for any fitness level, and just about any body type. There are a few exceptions, please see “Who is EMS Training NOT suitable for?”
-
EMS training is safe for everyone - from teenagers to seniors. It is also a safe fitness solution for those who want to exercise but have mobility issues or physical limitations. We have a range of suit sizes available to accommodate just about every body and we tailor your training to your physical abilities and fitness level.

EMS training is an excellent tool for improving posture and losing weight by burning fat, toning and building muscle strength, stamina and endurance. In addition, these treatments help to reduce cellulite by increasing blood circulation, tightening connective tissue and toning muscle for smoother skin.
Besides the physical benefits of EMS training, it also enhances sleep, mood and general well-being. These low-impact sessions are kind to your joints and tendons, as no jumping, running or twisting is involved. 99% of our clients don't get overly sweaty or feel the need to shower, so it's convenient to fit in during a lunch break or when you need to get back to your day quickly.
-
The EMS full-body workout engages more than 90% of muscle fibres across all major muscle groups simultaneously with each contraction. This contrasts with traditional training, where only 30% to 50% of muscle fibres are typically activated. EMS also targets deeper muscles compared to conventional training methods. Consequently, EMS training produces quicker and more visible results in less time.
-
Yes, the increased muscle activity of EMS sessions causes calorie burn! More significantly, the increased muscle mass you’ll develop in your EMS training can increase your metabolic rate, as muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue even at rest. EMS training improves exercise performance, meaning your muscle activation and endurance during other forms of exercise (and just daily living) will be improved. This contributes to increased calorie expenditure and will aid your weight loss efforts. EMS can also help reduce cellulite, and excess weight around the stomach area caused by peri or menopausal hormonal imbalances.
It's essential to note that for the best weight loss results a combination of EMS training, a balanced diet, and healthy lifestyle habits are required and we’re happy to provide guidance and advice.
-
Typically, our clients start seeing results after four weeks of one to two personal training sessions per week. To give you ample time to exercise and discuss any other issues or guidance to enhance your results even more (like nutrition or small lifestyle changes), we allow a 45-minute time slot (20 minutes is for EMS).

Approximately 70% of reported cases of back pain are in the lumbar region (lower back). This discomfort often stems from muscular imbalances, particularly between the extensor and flexor muscles in the torso, which can be aggravated by poor posture. The inhibition of stabilising muscles exacerbates back pain. Following just two sessions of EMS, 20% of clients were pain-free, which increased to 50% after six weeks. Overall, 88% of participants reduced their back pain dramatically.

At Resonate EMS Studio, after every session, we steam clean each suit and spray it with a natural sanitiser and disinfectant. After a couple of sessions, the cables and electrode covers inside the suits are removed, and the electrode covers, and the suits are machine-washed. We then thread the cables back into the suits, replace the electrodes, and they are ready to go again.
-
For your first session, we can provide a shirt and leggings to be worn under the EMS suit. Rest assured, these garments have been sanitised and machine-washed beforehand. In the future, you will have your own set of training garments.
-
Then EMS training will be great for you! It is extremely low impact and doesn’t strain the joints. Because we don’t use exercise machines or weights, risk of injury is greatly reduced.
EMS has also been shown to slow Sarcopenia, the muscle loss that occurs with aging.
As long as you are feeling well and have no significant health conditions you can use EMS. We will always ask you some initial questions before the training to tailor the workouts and make any necessary adjustments.
-
Depending on the nature and severity of the injury, EMS can be a great way to supplement your recovery.
It’s a safe way to get back mobility with very low risk further injury.
